“Toby KID Klauenberg is flat-out funny”—and has been for over thirty years of educational, uplifting, and side-splitting performances. From his debut in a Cub Scout skit to thousands of appearances across the globe, Toby has made a career out of finding the funny in life—and using it to inspire learning, curiosity, and joy.

Alongside the adventure of fatherhood, Toby’s full-time mission has been to turn laughter into learning. “It’s not all about laughs,” he says. “When we’re laughing, we’re at our most open—and most likely—to learn.” From toddlers to seniors, Toby has delivered high-energy, interactive programs on topics including reading, character building, leadership, healthy lifestyles, problem-solving, fire safety, magic, juggling, and more.

After graduating from Iowa State University, Toby took his first big step toward his dream career by teaching at the Beatrix Potter Primary School in London, England. After a short tour with a small mud show across Europe, he returned to the states. Working as a substitute Toby started leading school assemblies—until demand for his educational performances overtook his teaching schedule altogether.

Toby’s ever-growing client list has taken him to 489 states and 27 countries. countries. His dynamic, adaptable programs stay fresh with evolving educational trends, new content, and the diverse needs of both youth and adult audiences.

Beyond the stage, Toby pushes the art of clowning to new heights. He has written and produced material for WGN’s Bozo Show and Mexico’s Cepillín on Televisa. He served as editor for the largest online newsletter for children’s performers with over 2,000 subscribers. Toby was also tapped by Michael Josephson and the CHARACTER COUNTS! coalition to produce their first educational program.

McDonald’s relied on Toby’s expertise to co-author The Complete Field Guide for Ronald McDonald, and hired him to write and produce multiple shows for its national education program.

On the national stage, Toby has clowned around with First Ladies Barbara Bush and Laura Bush on literacy tours. The International Clown Hall of Fame & Research Center has honored Toby with a command performance for visiting dignitaries including the Director of the Moscow Circus and a team of cosmonauts, as well as hosting him to emcee a record six induction ceremonies. WGN’s Roy “Cookie” Brown even invited Toby to join him for fundraising tours across the Midwest.

Toby has opened for more than fifteen chart-topping musical artists, including BB King, Michael Martin Murphey, and Mark Chesnutt. He has performed over 15,000 shows and logged millions of miles—all in the name of laughter and learning.

Toby has been married to Jennifer since 1989. They raised four exceptional children, all of whom excel academically and athletically and are now enjoying life with their families. Toby and Jen live on a small acreage in central Iowa, affectionately known as

the FUNNY FARM presents.
